Sandy Springs Condominium Interior Design

Some clients just want an update, others want to make a significant change in their life and their home is a large part of that picture. Moving to a brand new condo and creating something solely for yourself was the most gratifying experience for this young woman. White walls and a clean slate is where our project started. The space was stark but had lofty ceilings that offered endless possibilities.

The Color Palette Of This Interior Design

We determined quickly that we needed to add color to some of the walls as a backdrop to new furniture with neutral fabric selections. We chose to paint accent walls only, as we still needed the space to be bright and happy. Happiness is the keyword here, this client was ready for pure contentment. Her collection of photographs from her travels around the world were prized possessions, which reminded her of everything she enjoys in life. I remember seeing them for the first time, I was in awe of what she has seen and experienced through her journey. It was easy to fall in love with the colors in her photographs and utilize them as inspiration to create schemes in several areas of the home.

The main living area, which included an open concept family room and kitchen along with a circular staircase to a loft, was the center of the home, where friends gather to reminisce about their travels. A photograph of the Indian Ocean, with cool blue-grey tones of the water, became the focal point of the interior design for the space. Choosing an accent wall with the right tone to not distract from our photo but enhance its beauty, we chose Benjamin Moore’s 2131-40 Smokestack Gray. The client wanted to add warmth to the space, so we decided to include a wall-mounted electric fireplace. These units are wonderful for the aesthetic as well as the warmth on a cold winter night. Heat rises in spaces with soaring ceilings, but this fireplace unit offers a fan-forced heating element to provide supplemental warmth.

Choosing Furniture For This Condominium

As this home was a temporary dwelling for the client, we were cognisant of the transient nature of the furniture. In order to move these pieces to a new home in the future, we kept all selections neutral in color. The client loved mid-century modern design, paying homage to one of the greatest design eras in history. Clean lines, function trumping all, and minimal ornamentation are the important elements to execute this style of design. We chose sleek pieces with interesting wood finishes, such as cerused oak wood. This technique was used as early in interior design as the 16th Century in Europe when craftsmen used cerusing to prevent rot and preserve furniture. Modern-day cerusing is not intended in the same manner, we use a lighter lime wash to highlight the beautiful wood grains of a dark stain. These statement pieces allow for a piece of history in the home with a modern touch.

The Guest and Master Bedroom Design

The bedrooms in the condominium were equally as important to the client as she often had visitors from different parts of the country and the world. We focused on comfort and simple elegance. In the master bedroom, we implemented orange/saffron tones among the sea of neutrals. In India, this color is symbolic of fire and is considered to be lucky and sacred. Again, looking through her collection of photographs, we discovered a wide range of amber tones which lent themselves to create the comfort a bedroom desires. We chose a deep neutral, Benjamin Moore 2134-40 Whale Gray as a background on the headwall, which permitted all of the warm tones to shine. Accenting in antique brass metal tones also added to the cozy feel of a bedroom. Surrounded by photos of nature, we also applied concrete accessories as another layer to support minimalism. This design element proves to be fresh and since akin to nature, it will stay fresh over time no matter the style of design.

To create an inviting space for guests while promoting good, sound sleep, it is essential to have top-quality, luxurious bedding. Choosing 100% cotton for breathability and ease of wash is the top choice for designers when a bedroom is used for multiple guests in a short period of time. The photo of the Alaskan Northern Lights with the magical Aurora Borealis effect will surely lull anyone to sleep. Soft, cozy textures layered with natural elements play against a crisp white background, which makes the room feel welcoming and restful. This client is ready for guests!
